Managing Employees

  • Employees are our biggest assets within our company.
  • Always make sure you hire the best people and take care of them appropriately.
  • Fred offers flexibility with his employees where they can come and go as needed, or have a stand-up desk, or work from home opportunities.
  • His company also brings bagels on Fridays or takes lunch and dinner orders during tax season when people are working extra hard.

Hiring the Best

  • You have to follow your gut feeling when interviewing and hiring.
  • Sometimes people don’t work out after 6 months or a year, it’s a hit or miss process.
  • Luckily, Fred has hit more than missed by going with his initial feelings on employees.
  • You want to find the great people who will do the work and help the whole team to succeed.

Connecting with Clients

  • Customer service is so important.
  • Make sure to follow up on emails and make people feel valued.
  • Even when you’re off work, let people know that you will get back to them first thing in the morning.
  • Clients love and appreciate that level of service.

The Most Important Thing I’ve learned About Money

  • Don’t spend more money on stuff you don’t need.
  • People often ask how they can get more deductions. Fred advises that you not spend more, so that you can save.
  • You want to have something for retirement or something to leave your children or grandchildren.
  • Save 10% per year for retirement and you will be doing great.
  • Also, with tax laws that continue to change, we have to keep learning. Fred takes lots of CE classes.
