Finding the Solution

  • Andre loves speaking.
  • He can speak to a couple hundred people and some will come up to him after and tell him that they have implemented his systems.
  • Implementation is great, but the follow through takes commitment.
  • When Andre was a competitive bike rider, he would get discouraged during the winter when it was cold.
  • He realized that he could get warmer clothes and stay out there – this made him realize that if he was committed, he would find a way to make things work.
  • You can always find a solution but you also have to find a reason you want to stay committed.
  • Once you have a goal, it’s easier to follow through.

Looking at Profitability

  • Andre’s first client was his brother in law.
  • When he first started working with him, Andre looked at the practices’ per patient/per hour number, then he looks at profitability.
  • He suggested doing more crowns, but the practice didn’t see the amount of decay needed for crowns.
  • Andre looked at the perio numbers and he saw only 6% of patients are being charged for periodontics but most are being treated for it.
  • He figured out a way to increase the number of patients that accepted the treatment, which increased the patient’s care threshold, as well as bringing in more income for the practice.

StatCk

  • StatCk came from the idea of making patient stats they can understand.
  • They wanted to make dental care plans that looked like grades you get in school, so they made easy to follow stats that patients could really connect with.
  • Originally, the concept was similar to the periodontal quality index, Andre’s team then came up with the grades associated with these numbers.
  • This aids in patient care acceptance because the patient actually understands the treatment they need and why.

CREW

  • CREW stands for Challenge, Reflection, Energy, Win.
  • CREW is a different approach to team building – Andre’s method is based on the belief that everyone should do their job and do it well, or step down.
  • Another factor in this is that if someone isn’t able to do their job, they step aside.
  • As an example, if one hygienist isn’t able to come into work one day, they can call another CREW member and have someone jump in.
  • This way everyone is thinking about the greater outcome and not the singular, “I can’t come in today.”
  • Once this system is implemented, the office runs much better – everyone has their job, knows what they’re responsible for, and does it.
  • If not, they need to find somewhere else. This may seem a bit cold, but the method works!

Best Tip for a Thriving Practice

  • We should work to get back to the beginnings of dentistry.
  • Ask for referrals and stop chasing “dragons” like website appearances to find new patients.
  • Focus on the basics – the basics in dentistry make it a very profitable business.
  • Focus on the patients that are currently in the chair.
  • Make sure they are well taken care of and that you have a good relationship with them.
