Emily is a general dentist who owns two multi-specialty group practices in Southern California. She has an incredible story of growth, being born in Vietnam during the Vietnam war and living in a humble house with 3 other families growing up. When her family escaped Vietnam, Emily joined them in coming to the USA. After arriving in California, she spent most of her nights learning to translate Vietnamese to English so she could understand context. She went on to receive her Bachelor of Science in Biology from UC Riverside, is a graduate of UCLA School of Dentistry and received her Master of Science in Oral Biology from UCLA at the same time in four years. As a mother of three, Dr. Letran creatively balances work, family life, after-school life and her personal life as a growing entrepreneur. She continues to focus on business and personal growth.

Setting Goals
- It’s necessary to take care of yourself in addition to your business.
- If we don’t first take care of ourselves, we will become depleted.
- You have to change your mindset and find clarity on why you want to be a high performer.
- You need to find your ‘why’ – Emily wants to create an impact, other people may say they want to leave a legacy for their family.
- If you don’t know your ‘why’, start asking yourself if what you’re doing is good enough for your life? Is it all you want to do? Do you think you can do more? If you want more, why do you want more?
- Look for these answers and then set your goals.
Staying the Course
- Your goals have to be personal and in alignment with your values.
- If they aren’t, when things get tough, you will have no reason to move forward.
- Ask yourself weekly if you’ve reached your goals, then you’ll know if you’re done.
- If not, you have to keep going.
Mastering Your Craft
- Accountability is a part of Emily’s job, but the other part is coaching on courage.
- While becoming a speaker, wasn’t comfortable at first, but she knew she needed to be.
- Even though she wasn’t comfortable, she pushed through and her second speaking event was a TEDx talk.
- She became a great speaker, but she also learned how to get her audience to want to take action after hearing her speak.
Time Management
- Delegation is key and as a business owner, you can’t spend all of your time checking other people’s work.
- When you feel that you’re the only one who can do something, you’re not able to be accountable to yourself.
- You have to let go – if you need to take time for self-care, like going to the gym, don’t take on so much that you’re skipping what you need to do for yourself.
- A big issue is lack of trust in your team, but you have to trust your team once you train them correctly.
- Make a to-do list of all the things you have to do, then go through the list and make a checkmark next to any items that directly make you money.
- Those are the tasks you should be doing – you should delegate everything else.
